Amwaj, Bahrain

 

The design of Chawan- Bahrain's first authentic Japanese Tea House evolved around Hanami, the auspcious tea drinking ceremony under the canopy of the cherry blossom tree. A strict palette of colours and materials embracing Japanese culture was used to create this innovative zen-inducing space that created waves in the dining scene

Renovation of Retail space, Bahrain

ZPW re-interpreted the 40 year old physical identity of a traditional Bahraini savoury + sweet shop located in the oldest quadrant's of Bahrain - Al Muharraq. A contemporary design and material palette used to portray the evolution of the brand as a premier destination for its old and new patrons.

 

The redesign led to a 300% increase in revenue that propels the ZPW anthem that good design is good business.

G's penchant for design, detailing and project delivery is also showcased in the architecture, interior design and project management of a repertoire of residential, commercial, institutional, industrial and mixed-use developments across Bahrain, UAE  Qatar, KSA, Morocco and India.   His multi-disciplinary and cross cultural experience stems from his involvement with the Northern Gulf HQ of  'ATKINS' - the award winning UK consultancy and 'the bodhi tree' - a bangalore based boutique design  studio and the Middle East based design think tank catalyst.

Sumam worked on a repertoire of projects at ATKINS Middle East, such as Law Courts, McLaren Showroom, Science Centre etc.

 

Sumam's prior experience in India  include her work with award winning design firms such as collaborative architecture, hundredhands and thebodhitree. Her experience in India includes Private Residences, Schools, IT parks  Sumam is a registered architect with the Council of Architecture, India and is a strong advocate of Sustainable Design & Energy efficiency in built environments.
